This West Coast-style double IPA is a perfect balance of malts and hops. Brewed with spruce tips, Simcoe and Amarillo hops give it piney resin and citrus flavors.

From a can. An opaque gold pour with an abundant head and lacing.
Sweet malt forward profile. This settles into a vanilla and pine, mild tropical orange and tangerine fruitiness.
The 9% ABV is well masked by the abundant flavor.
Hops bitterness is mild to say the least.

Dry, bitter, resinous, slightly citrusy, subtle malt.
This is basically what I want in a double IPA, strong hops upfront then I get a little bit of citrus as the malt comes forward and brings it all together. I really like this beer.

A beauty to look at; clear, deep amber appearance with a large off white head and very good lacing. Some citrus snuck in among all the pine in the aroma. Taste dominated by the resinous, piney hops. Malts squeeze in some sweetness but not enough to add significant balance to the sharpness of the hop profile. Aftertaste is a bit acidic. Still, like the way it settles on the taste buds.

Canned on 12/17/18; consumed on 12/29/18. Gift from brother-in-law.

A: Poured from the can into a Piraat tulip-snifter-type glass. Body is coppery orange with a small whitish head.

S: Not much of a nose at all, which seems odd. Maybe it's too cold from sitting out in the fridge in my garage? As it warms I get a faint hint of pine and some malty sweetness, but I really have to stick my nose in the glass.

T: Good amount of sweet malt foundation here - primarily of the caramel malt variety, with a touch of brown sugar as well. Finishes with a decent amount of pine and spruce. But too much lingering sweetness for me to give this a better score. Spicy burps.

M: Pretty thick and slick in heft and feel. Syrupy.

O: Not impressed with this one. Too sweet.
