an interesting recipe here, intended to be a sort of hoppy bock, but it ends up being quite light for that, thin in body and lighter in flavor than it out to be with that original goal in mind. a pale brown color, great head, good clarity. aromas of dried banana, caramel malt, and dusty german grains as well. you really dont smell the hops here, but in the flavor they are rather prominent, offering some nice balance and counterpoint to the sweeter grain base. the malt flavor seems a little underdone though, like they pulled back a bit, the flavors are spot on, but there isnt enough of them, and the beer has no body or substance to it as a result, and the flavor fades too fast despite its higher sugar content. i like the concept though, and could see this working a lot better in spring than in winter, but its definitely an interesting recipe, unlike most others in its class. it was awesome to check out the old/newly reopened brewery on the denver metro campus. what a cool spot they have in there. maybe denvers best kept beer secret right now...

Pass the Buck is ad dullish copper-amber hue. Very thin, slightly soapy head. Aroma is a bit toasty, a touch smokey with some herbally, tinny hops in these, too. Not much aroma, but what is there is decent enough. Tastes are pleasant enough, too; toasted malts gives it a nice brown ale-like base, with a bit of hops in the finish to spice it up. Leaves a mildly bitter aftertaste. I'm into the mild toasty flavors up front. Not quite a brown, not quite a bock, not quite an Amber. IMO, a much better Tivoli offering than their helles.
