a weird one from these guys, is it supposed to be smokey? nothing on the menu mentioned the use of smoked malt or anything, but this is decidedly smoke forward, like a campfire, woodsy and autumnal, a bit too sweet to want to drink much of it, kind of strange and a little disjointed overall, but at least its not another samey red! mahogany in color with a nice head from the tap, smells like iodine and wet wood, slightly medicinal, but not unappealing. maybe some rye in the mix, a cherrywood smoke complexion to me, molasses and brown sugar concentrated sweetness as well, maybe a hint of red apple, and a breadiness from the yeast, a little old worldy to me there. i wish it was drier, and it ends up being the residual sugar not the weird and unaccounted for smoke profile that throws me off a bit. a bigger body, a woodsy fall vibe, and a unique mix of flavors, but not a bad beer. lots of tivoli stuff seems traditional and to style, this one seems weird enough that it could be flawed, but i actually liked it, just couldnt make an evening of it. anyone else find this smokey?

This was a standard red ale, a bit hoppy, but with enough malt to balance it. I like the cause, and was happy to support it by ordering this beer. Nothing outstanding, but very drinkable. Sometimes reds can be too aggressive but this one was nicely made.
