this is solid, somewhat better than i remember their normal tivoli helles being, i assume this is a special recipe just for rhein haus in denver, who must go through enough beer to justify a project like that, or else its just renamed for them and improved since i last had it under its normal name, but im thinking the former. this has some sweetness to it but its not too much, it has just enough hop to crisp the finish, and just enough yeast to give it some old world authenticity, but its a drinkable and agreeable brew designed it seems to be a crowd pleaser. it also works super well with their heavier and saltier fare in here, some rich spaetzle and cream sauce and all of that, this is a fine accompaniment, sausages, whatever. pretty much all beer looks good in a dimpled half liter mug, no denying, but this is light and close to clear and holds on pretty well to its inch and a half of white froth. the nose is muted to me, fresh, mineral forward, european on the grain side, and with a faint honey note, but pretty understated. the flavor is bready without being hefty, balanced without really being hoppy, german without forcing it, and very drinkable, even as it warms up, as half liters tend to do. im not saying this is epic or anything, and obviously there are a lot of great german beers available in this place, but im glad i had one, think it fits in well, and its a solid domestic choice that walks the old world line rather effectively. well done, and again, better than their normal helles used to be, but its been years...
