Somewhat hazy but also unusually clear for the style, presenting dark orange to amber under an also surprisingly short head of off-white foam.

Classic, if a little tart tanginess, it hits a lot of the desired notes up front, but then settles to what seems a stronger ester and booze flavor than the standard.

I think these guys are the west coast equivalent of Rickards. They sit a bunch of marketing guys in a room and the boss guy asks what's trendy beer-wise these days? The marketing mob pipes up with what they think is currently the in thing beer-wise and the first guys asks if the brew guys think they can make that.

"Yeah, yeah, we can make that.", they says.

Then the first guy says, "Okay. Good. Do it. Just don't use any ingredients." Everybody nods their heads and slap each other on the back and off they go to design the label and the box and brew the beer-ish stuff.

So what you get is a whole bunch of beers, named for all kinds of beer styles, that really don't smell or taste like much. It's not awful, but it's not good beer either.

So I've landed a 12-pack with 6 different "styles" of beer that I've got to work my through. I'm thinking I might even be able to use the same review 6 times if I just tweak the numbers a bit (dare me).

A little wheaty. A little yeasty. Pretty light overall. I figure the 12x case might be good at least for gently introducing a beerful friend who is a little scared of beer that he doesn't think tastes like beer to the different styles that are out there.

Sonder is German for "special". Meh. Not so much.

To begin, this is not my favourite style, but I fished this out of a singles bin when I really couldn't find anything else to tickle my fancy. Overall, a decent interpretation of a Hefeweizen. Cloudy, light on the clove (a good thing in my books), and on the sweeter side. Plenty of banana and wheat in the taste profile (again, a good thing in my books.) I would not buy a sixer of this, but would consider a pint on a summer day.

341 mL bottle from TBS; included in Okanagan Springs' current seasonal mixed 12-pack. The case is coded B2715 (Feb 27 2015) so this is not particularly fresh stock. Served slightly chilled.

Pours a clouded orange-amber hue, opaque with sediment and capped off with one finger of creamy, eggshell white-coloured head. It recedes steadily over the next couple of minutes, depositing a modest coat of lacing as it settles down to a thin, smooth cap of foam. I'm getting a lot of ripe banana, bubblegum and peach/apricot fruitiness in the aroma, along with a firm backing of wheaty, bready malt sweetness. A touch yeasty, as well, which gives a mild, peppery clove spiciness to the profile.

This is a decent North American interpretation of the style. Similar to the nose, the ripe banana and bubblegum flavours are played up prominently, backed up by a stalwart, bready wheat malt backbone. Hints of apricot and red apple flavour surface mid-sip, only to be brushed aside by yeasty, weakly drying finish that includes a touch of clove spice. Kind of a lingering banana ester flavour in the aftertaste. Light-bodied, with moderate carbonation levels that come off a bit lazy for this style; the overall mouthfeel is not exactly flat, but definitely a bit watery. On the bright side, it's exceptionally easy to drink, and fairly refreshing.

Final Grade: 3.46, a B-. One of the first hefeweizens I ever consumed was from this brewery, though I'm pretty sure that brand was retired a few years ago. I see OK Springs' Sonder Hefe as basically being a revival of that label, if not in recipe then at least in spirit. It remains a decent example of a German-style wheat beer, though (if I may be blunt here) it still doesn't really hold a candle to most of the imports. I'd drink it again, and would never discourage others from doing so, but as a hefe this is merely serviceable.

341ml bottle poured into tulip 9/7/15

A slight haze in a orange copper body, lots of bubbles but just a short lived finger of foam that leaves no lace, not much for head and its a little clear for a hefe

S lots of banana and bread but they don't add up to banana bread if that makes sense, some dry cereal and hard to place spice

T again lots of bready banana, a hint of bubble gum, nothing special really with the yeast carrying this one

M fairly light, prickly bubbles, banana lingers

O about as basic as the style gets, nothings "wrong" with it other then the lack of complexity

One of those beers that I'd drink under a hot sun but never seek out again, a macro attempt at a hefe

Best Hefe I've ever tasted! Crisp, smooth, full of flavour but not overpowering. Perfect for Summer!
