a fair esb, not enough of these being made here locally, so props for recognizing and filling a void. its a simple and lighter take on the style, i get the necessary maris otter malt and english ale yeast in here, and the ratio and balance between the two seem spot on to me, but their flavors are just a little muted. not quite watered down, but not as hearty maybe as some of the imported examples of the style. the grain tastes fresh, and has a tiny bit of light brown sugar sweetness to it, but not so much that it loses its drinkability. the yeast is mild like it is in the other english type beers these guys make, perhaps indicative of a cooler fermentation temperature. i actually dont mind that though, as light as it is, i think it works. this isnt a place you go to for one pint, its so comfortable and relaxing, time tends to fly by, and this is a cool beer to make an evening of, flavorful enough, but pretty easy going too, a real session ale. the beer here as improved dramatically over time, give it another shake if its been awhile...
