L- Superficially black but ultra-deep chestnut-ruby. Pours almost clear with a 3Cm deep tan foam head. Ps @+10mins the head holds very well and forms much lacing down the sides.
S- Is this liquor-barrel aged? There is a liquor note that reminds me of tiramisu, a cocoa facet too...
T- Boof, rich and swiftly into quite sweet. Then cocoa swiftly morphs into... erm... cold morning-after log-ashes in a fireplace with hints of smoke and then a solid background aspect that reminds me of Coca Cola. The finish on the palate is similar to that of a puddingy sweet rum+coke.
F- Youthfully sweet on the palate and contemporary in style. It's full-on so one I have to sip slowly away at. Hence -> a tip: start off well chilled as this is too big to rush and it you 'linger too longa' it risks getting OTT sweet.
O- It's the kind of thing I should have shared with someone on a cold winter's day, suddenly a 440ml can seems like a lot. The liquor is quite shouty, the sweetness seems more like lactose than malt(ose) - it is right there front and centre rather than 'in the mix'. It's way too sweet for me. I can finish it but I certainly won't buy it again. It's a bold statement though, and I'm sure 'other's experience will vary' so good luck to you!
Review/scoring all done, now the reveal, I get to read the bottle lables to see what I missed! => It's bourbon barrel. Contains 9 malts from 3 grains (wheat, barley, oats) and despite that it also contains lactose... yep...
440ml can BB: Nov-2023 Lot: B#917. £8.50. Bought from BeautifulBeers/BurySt.Edmunds as part of a large pick-your own consignment to London.
