Pours a sturdy clear amber body with a foamy head that slowly fades out over the top. The nose is prominent and very complex, with caramel, toffee, earth, and strong malt. On the palate, the same caramel, toffee, and earth come through swinging with dark fruit and earthy hops on the finish with a crisp bite and fairly neutral mouthfeel. Very good beer.

355 ml bottle served cold into a pint glass. Purchased as part of the summer Brewmasters pack. Cost was around $2.40 CDN for the bottle.
Appearance - very clear rich dark golden color. Three quarter finger if soft fluffy head on top. Moderate retention and not much lacing. Minimal carbonation.
Smell - moderately grainy, with a. Suggestion of dark fruits, namely peach and plum. Not terribly aromatic but alright for a bitter.
Taste - middling bitterness, a fairly grainy feel, more so than many in the style. A subtle sharp alcoholic note lingers on the tongue. Not super balanced. Some herbalness.
Mouthfeel - chalky and dry with a coarse feel.carbonation is ok. Body feels clunky and a sharpness that isn't pleasant.
Overall - I wanted to like this but too much grain, too much chalkiness and that subtle alcoholic sharp note, make this stone mason ale not a winner in my books. Serviceable in no mixed pack, but just off what I've come to expect from Mill Street which frankly isn't a ton.

355 mL bottle, one of six in their "Summer Brewpub" mixed pack; dated May 16 2017 and served at cellar temperature.
Pours a crystal clear medium golden hue, with one finger of loose, soapy white froth situated atop. It weakens and fades within the next two minutes or so, with only a frothy, modest-sized collar managing to evade its total erosion. Not much in the way of lacing; looks ok. The aroma is mild and not very interesting - hints of toasted biscuit, gritty grains, toffee, and some herbal, leafy hop notes are really all I'm getting out of it.
An unassuming, unmemorable beer - but that's not necessarily a death knell, considering the typically low-key nature of this style. The flavour profile includes notes of wheaty bread, toasted grains and a light biscuity sweetness, together with a rather faint hint of caramel and some metallicity. Finishes with an earthy, leafy, somewhat grassy hop note, followed up with mineral water and a short-lived residual malt sweetness in the aftertaste. Light in body, with middling carbonation levels that inflict a slight crisp bite on the tongue; a little watery, to be honest, but again - for a bitter, that's not exactly a capital crime. Easy enough to drink.
Final Grade: 3.33, a mediocre B-. I gave it a chance, but Mill Street's Stone Mason Ale is too watery and bland-tasting for me to recommend with much enthusiasm. Is this a terrible example of a bitter? No, not really - but I do feel it's an underwhelming one overall, with many of the common UK exports handily blowing it away in terms of both price and quality. I'd drink this again if it were being offered, but I can't envision a situation where I'd voluntarily re-purchase it.
