One of the first beers poured at the opening of our Calgary Brewpub in October 2016 and a local favourite ever since! Distinctively smooth, Chuckwagon Wheat's spicy banana aroma and slightly tart, dry finish are impeccably balanced for the ideal summer pint!

Capped: Hazy and cloudy straw color with low activity. Foamy white 2 finger head, lasting around 5-10 minutes, with shy legs but good swirl reaction. Flavors of caramel, wheat, apples, light banana, Belgian yeast, coriander, and floral hops. Slick and slightly oily full body with prickly and crispy carbonation. Medium strength finish, a bit bready with mild spices. Very similar to a Witbier. Decent freshness and complexity. Overall good quality craft while nothing stellar to note.

Hazy straw yellow with a nice head and cap. Wheat and some banana on the nose. A fairly basic medium weight body with some refreshing crispness to finish.

355 mL bottle from the LCBO; the last of six included in Mill Street's 2018 Brewpub sampler. Dated May 3 2018 and served slightly chilled.

Pours a foggy yellow-blonde colour, capped off by about one finger of foamy white head. This layer lasts for three minutes or so, receding steadily; by the time it's gone, only a modest collar of froth survives, surrounding a patchy, paper-thin film. It smells of ripe banana, yeasty clove spice and soft wheat malt sweetness, with a light suggestion of citrus peel. Quite nice; this aroma is really more akin to that of a hefeweizen than an APWA - and no, that is not meant to be a criticism (because I usually enjoy the former more than the latter anyhow).

The flavours follow after the nose, with malted wheat providing a bready, crackery sort of background sweetness that is present throughout the sip. Ripe banana also figures in rather prominently, while accents of lemon zest and clove spice imbue the profile with just a tad bit more depth. Finishes yeasty, with an aftertaste that dries out quickly. Light-medium in body, with average carbonation levels that lightly prickle the palate, and an overall texture I'd describe as smooth and slightly crisp. Excellent drinkability.

Final Grade: 3.89, a B+. I admittedly wasn't expecting much from this beer, but I was pleasantly surprised to find out that Chuckwagon Wheat is one of the better inclusions in this mixed pack - for me, top spot goes to either this one or the Altbier. Fans of German weiss-type fare shouldn't have too much trouble appreciating this one for what it is: a straightforward, serviceable hefeweizen that stays well within the lines. Sure, it's no Weihenstephaner, but it'll still quench your thirst nicely on a hot summer's afternoon.

Pours a hazy, yellow-orange body with a modest amount of creamy white head at the top. The nose is filled with banana and warm spices, along with a bit of a citrus twist. On the palate, this is continued with similarly spicy and fruity flavours derived from the Belgian yeast, with just a dash of orangey hops and a full body. Nice finish and great smoothness. Really well balanced and easy drinking wheat beer.
