Bottle: Poured a medium amber color bock with a medium size foamy head with OK retention and not much lacing. Aroma of sweet malt with caramel notes. Taste is not overly complex with some caramelized malt notes with light touch of toffee. Body is a bit light for style with good carbonation. Not bad but lacking taste or complexity.

sort of dissapointed with this brew. Not to sort of bold taste you'd expect with that 7.0 ABV. Way too sweet for me, too malty. took over the whole flavour for the beer. didnt enjoy the mouthfeel either. There was no head and the lacing faded almost immediately.

A - clear ruby copper with a short head that dissipated fairly quickly leaving not much
S - dominated by syrupy sweet and bloodlike aromas, cherries and a hint of booziness
T - overly sugary sweet, a mineral quality, some fruitiness, but the the sweetness is generally overdone
M - medium body, a little on the flat side, the sweetness leaves a film on the teeth, a little alcohol heat to finish
O - overall disappointing, big props to Mill Street for continuing to experiment with new styles, this one just doesn't match up to quality doppelbocks

Pretty much a lightweight brew. Not assertive in any way except for being rather sweet and malty in character.
Clear copper pour, short head and zero lace. Sweet nose, a little dark fruit. Drinks sweet and malty, very little in the way of hops. Clean mouthfeel despite being sweet, maybe a little light.
Average without being bland.

From the mixed six at the LCBO.
A - Pours copper, bright, with decent carbonation coming up. A film of white head fades to nothing instantly. No lace and no retention.
S - Earthy, strong caramel, smoke. Very straightforward.
T - Earthy hops with caramel and breadiness. Raisins are there as well. The metallic element is present as many other reviews have noted, but it works.
M - Carbonation is between mils and medium with a medium body that seems a bit thin and a sweet finish.
O/D - Not as rich and satisfying as other Doppelbocks, but it's highly drinkable for the ABV and pretty tasty. The rich caramel is a nice touch and there are a few layers hidden beneath it as well. Not a great Mill Street brew, but a decent offering.

Appearance: How can something that has that much carbonation in the body, not produce even a half finger of head? There's no head at all! Thankfully the body is a deep chestnut brown with ample carbonation.
Smell: Malt and dates. That's pretty much it, there just isn't a lot of complexity and warming didn't really help it out. Lacking in potency means a low score for this one.
Taste: Pretty much the same way it smells, a massive dose of molasses malt that is pulled back by a fig and date sort of taste and maybe a slight taste of bitter chocolate at the end. I wouldn't call it bad or good.
Mouthfeel: Good carbonation but the alcohol isn't well disguised and gives it a bit of a solvent feeling. It has a bit of an almost creamy element, but the complete lack of head makes it seem a bit out of place.
Drinkability: Nothing offensive, but nothing special. It comes off at the heavier end of medium bodied, which is really what it should be. Really only fit for the Fireplace.
Final Thoughts: I got this in a Mill St. Seasonal sampler and this beer is what made me pick it up, and the ESB nearly made me want to say forget it. However after trying them, the ESB came out ahead and this didn't fare so well. I wouldn't say there's anything here that I'd really be keen on giving another go. Pass

Reviewing this according to style.
Poured a light honey amber with a thin head. Very minimal malt aroma with a subtle spicy bitterness
Medium/light body with a lager like flavor as well as some slightly pungent hops. Very dull for a doppelbock, very light. More consistent with a german lager than a dopplebock as far as I am concerned. Some weird flavor in there as well. I notice someone else said metallic and I would certainly agree.
Mouthfeel: Light.
Overall, very very disappointed in this beer. A beer with a fancy name for the massess. Its not that its bad, its actually easy to drink but its not anything close to a bock or a dopplebock.

12oz bottle into shaker pint glass.
Thanks to my brother nwfodder for picking this and other goodies up at the brewery.
A- Clear dark amber pour with a two finger soapy off white head. Head drops to a finger width and chunky lacing around the glass.
S- Brown sugar, dates and a slight metallic smell that is a mix between grains and the metallic smell I get from most Belgian Strong Dark Ales. There is a slight grape or pear skin smell that I'm getting up front, it's a little strange.
T- Grains, dark fruits and a touch of that metallic taste. not as sweet as the nose leads on.
M- Light bodied for a Doppelbock, scarce feeling on the carbonation.
O- I like what Mill Street does for the most part but this one threw me off a little. The metallic taste I get drives me nuts. I really wish I knew what it was giving me that taste so I can avoid it altogether.

Bottle date of 12511??? Served at 50F in to Tulip glass.
A - Medium brown/ruby colour; translucent. One finger of bubbly off white head.
S - The initial nose is an off-putting acidic/tart aroma that disappeared after a few seconds. Bready malts, chocolate, caramel, raisins. After the initial aroma, the nose was actually inviting.
T - Sweet bready malts with caramel and a light chocolate flavour. Brown sugar and raisins in the background. The sweetness is cut by the ABV, creating a good balance. Fairly easy drinking considering the ABV. After a while a distracting acidic taste showed up, similar to the initial nose. Still a decent enough beer overall, but not memorable.
M - Light to medium body, sightly creamy. Moderate to high carbonation. Could be improved with more body and less carbonation.

Poured into a pint glass. A big three finger off white head on a clear dark amber. The head soon diminishes to a thin layer. Some lacing.
Malty smells. Tastes of sweet malts. Brown sugar. Alcohol creeps up and becomes steadily more apparent.
Creamy mouthfeel. Smooth and well balanced. Nod bad overall. A bit weak in the flavour department. A middle of the road version of what should be a fairly big beer. I would buy this again.

Bottle from the brewpub store, 355ml listed at 7% ABV. Into a tulip.
Poured an amber brown, with a crisp white head. Quite solid lacing, with a moderate film of retention. Dark bread, toasty malts, and some toffee on the nose, with a bit of grain. Taste has a rich toffee, grain and breadiness to it. Maybe some dark fruits, along the line of some plums or raisins. A general dry sugary sweetness, without any noticeable alcohol anywhere on the palate. Pretty full feel, and a pretty low carbonation. An OK doppel, but nothing complex or worth coming back to. No real off flavours, but I'm not too intrigued by this either.

Pours a light, clear amber with a thin white head, not much lacing.
Smells raisiny, sweet, nutty, lagerish.
Tastes of grapes, raisins, dark sugary fruity malts, nutty, caramel, apple, grains. Pretty interesting Doppelbock. Could use a bit more body and hops. Thin mouthfeel.
Overall a fairly good version of the style, not the best ever but still worth a try.

Pours a clear copper colour with little if any head at all. Smells a bit, grapey, oddly. Bit of caramel and toffee. Bit of a malty sweet flavour. Some nuttiness as well. Mouthfeel is a tad thin. Definitely one of Mill Street's weaker brews. It doesn't even feel like a true doppelbock. And I'm surprised at the ABV, considering the little alcohol flavour.

Not quite the style, but an enjoyable sweet German style beer. Sugar, medium mouthfeel, light brown colour. Virtually no head. Neutral, malty aroma. A tad of raisin and grape, caramel in the middle, booze in the finish. Very light on hops. Above average carbonation, with a little mineral Perrier feel and taste to it.
