A 12-oz pour at the brewery was topped with thin eggshell white head with long retention and fat rings of lacing. Copper-amber color that shows gold-amber in sunlight, clear with small, cap supporting bubbles.

Bready smell of toasted wheat and grains, a bit yeasty with the perception of sweetness and medium-low floral hops.

Semi-sweet at first with medium-low bitterness. toasted whole grain bread leads the taste with rising dough and some wheat germ. Hop flavor is low yet balancing, faint unsweetened apple juice and pear appear. The finish is neutral (maybe slightly dry) with hop flavor dropping off first, the remaining tastes follow close behind. Toasted malt flavor lingers briefly.

Medium light bodied with lasting carbonation, great balance of sweetness and bitterness. Alcohol is well hidden; the aforementioned balance leads to a smooth feel. This beer has been consumed after Märzen season and they are sold only on draft now, no more cans. I suspect this beer is a little old, so I plan to get this one earlier next year. Sill very good.

 

 

 

16oz. Can served in a Nordic cooler glass. Pours a lovely translucent copper with a loose, 1/8th inch, tan-colored head that slowly sizzles and pops as it disperses. Nose expresses notes of toasted malts and mild fruity esters. Taste follows nose with the addition of some caramel and roast, finish with a slight bitterness. Mouthfeel is light in body with an assertive carbonation. Overall, a lovely Marzen.

Pours a clear, deep copper body capped with multiple fingers of rich, off-white foam; good head retention yields a sliver of cap, modest, creamy collar, and an even distribution of webby/spotty lacing draping down the walls of the glass.

Aromas of toffee phase to hints of biscuit and pumpernickel accents, with nutty malt subtext yielding brown toast over a persistent air of floral lager yeast.

Taste offers a tinge of brown sugar and general nuttiness upfront as black bread crust becomes steadily defined over the mid-palate, followed by a slightly sweetened overlay of toffee/caramel edging through the finish.

Mouthfeel shows a light body accompanied by a choppy spritz of moderate carbonation prickling to dryness through the mid-palate; crispness maintains into the back end, where flaky tautness dissipates on a wavering finish.

Darker malts show out as a dryly sweet roast balances subliminal brown sugar with a more fragrant, freshly toasted predisposition; a bolder delivery, yet nicely tempered.

 

 

 

Very solid example of the style.

Aroma isn't the most inviting, but it's okay.

Malty, of course, but I appreciate that it's not too much so. Plenty of space for the noble hops to shine.

 

Pours an amber, like you would expect from a Märzen. Some nuttiness on the nose. That carries through. It has a lot of that nutty, toasty, almond butter character you would expect. There is also a little bit of yeast estery expression as well on the finish that seems a bit out of place to me. I thought this was solid and better than many of the other US Oktoberfests.
