Night Watch Stout

The appearance was a fairly dark black color with a finger’s worth of light tan foamy head. Moderate stringy lace. The aroma had some roasty coffee beans, light tree bark (somewhat like cedar), some baker’s chocolate, dark chocolate nibs, light toast, some burnt features and some earthy hops. The flavor leaned into the roastiness at first and then tried to blend some of the earthiness in. But the earthiness seemed fairly controlled and didn’t possess enough stride to follow through. Aftertaste was all about the roast. And it was the same in the finish. The feel was about medium bodied with a sense of somewhat sessionable to sipping quality. Carbonation felt fine helping to guard the ABV and keep that set in as what the brewer projected. Overall, this is a pretty good American stout that I could have again.
