Tasting glass on tap at Great Lost Bear in Portland, Maine.
Appearance: Pours a dark brown with some ruby notes when held to the light. Small tan head. No lacing. A little too dense to observe carbonation.
Aroma: Smells of oats, coffee, dark chocolate, oatmeal and some hop bitterness. Appealing. Alcohol very faint (their website says ABV is 5, by the way).
Taste: Mighty tasty. The taste follows the nose but is more pronounced. Nice bitter chocolatey finish. Really a terrific smooth porter. I wish I'd asked for a whole pint.
Mouthfeel: Perfect for a porter. Nice and smooth and easy, but with a robust body.
Overall: Terrific porter and a well executed hybrid style. Definitely need to seek out more of this.
