The line where beer ends and dessert begins has led many brewers to experiment with different confectionary ideas to decorate their base styles. But new to the scene is banana cream. Ethereal weaves the flavors of this childhood school treat into a Bavarian wheat beer for that familiar taste and a surprising sense of drinkability.
Pale straw and cloudy to the eye, the frothy Banana Splitsville brings a bold banana, cream, bubblegum and nuanced spice into the nose. Familiar in its bready presence, the fresh dough scent makes a seamless transition to taste with cookie dough, vanilla cream, marzipan and honey.
Its strong banana presence pulls from the natural esters and floods the tastebuds with a bready-sweet bananas foster taste. Rounded and creamy throughout, its slight milky presence starts to favor a minty, juicy fruit character decorated with mild clove, white pepper and a slight pep of lemon before trailing into a racy and mildly crisp late palate.
Medium bodied but at times trending dry enough to be light, the sweeter and creamier upstart makes a quick transition to drinkability and refreshment in its finish. A medium length afterglow of both banana and cream resonates briefly afterwards.
