Brewed with real Canadian honey. Our Prairie Honey Wheat Ale is a medium-bodied, well-balanced brew that is the perfect drink for a hot summer day. The honey malt leaves notes of residual sweetness that is rounded out with a slight hop bitterness, resulting in a refreshing brew all around.

Beer 7 of the Parkdale Beer Festival. Thanks Barb! Review from notes.

Appearance - Dark honey golden brown colored brew, Ok head and retention.

Smell - Some honey, some caramel and plenty of sweet aromatics.

Taste - Like the nose, leading with honey, some wheat, but just a touch too sweet for me personally overall . Hop bitterness, not quite apparent.

Mouthfeel - Medium bodied, average carbonation and a tiny bit dry to close.

Overall - A solid addition to Moosehead's portfolio, decent amount of honey and sweetness, with just a touch too much sweetness for this BA, but it is a solid brew. Worth a try and might enjoy again.

473 mL can from the LCBO; coded Feb 22 2019 and served well chilled.

Pours clear and effervescent, with a deep golden honey-like hue to its body, which itself is capped with just over a finger of foamy, frothy white head. It wilts within the next several minutes, leaving behind a thin cap and a soapy collar, as well as an attractive coat of smooth, even lace. Clean, straightforward aroma - I'm getting a light honey sweetness, as well as a fair bit of bready, grainy wheat malts, and a slight suggestion of grassy hops. No complaints so far.

A decent American wheat ale, and that's the most substantial compliment this beer is going to pry out of me. Very simple stuff - it starts off with gritty grains, wheaty bread and subtle honey sweetness, with these flavours remaining dominant for the entirety of the sip. Hints of caramel and honey round off the back end, with only a touch of grassy hops present to compete for your taste buds' attention; malts and honey persist briefly into the sweet-ish aftertaste. Medium in body, with zippy carbonation that prickles and prods the palate continuously, adding a crisp bite to this wheat ale's otherwise smooth, creamy texture. Real easy to toss back, though at 5.7% I don't think I can rightfully call it a session ale.

Final Grade: 3.55, a B grade. Moosehead's Prairie Honey Wheat Ale ain't half bad, and fans of Sleeman Honey Brown should definitely consider seeking this one out. Going only by memory, this brew's honey sweetness is approximately equal to that of Sleeman's old standby, though it does boast a more robust malt backing (which IMO makes Prairie Honey a better beer overall). Not a massively better beer, mind you, but still good enough to be worth the tick - I may end up buying more, but we'll see.
