22oz brown bottle, sample from the brewery.
Dark russet brown with ruby highlights, clear with a decent drop of lacing on the glass. Plums and prunes with an earthy creamy caramel note in the nose, some alcohol and mild phenols as well. Smooth and slightly creamy, peppercorn and dried dark fruit on the palate. Modest hopping, expressive alcohol but not hot. Hint of broth and mineral. Sip after sip, memories of my visits to Belgium come flooding back, this is what Belgian beer is about for any brewer or home-brewer wanting an excellent example brewed in the US to taste.

Pours a dark orange tinged brown. No head to speak of.
Aroma is kind of funky, with notes of rotting prunes, some caramel and malt comes through as well.
Taste has notes of caramel, malts, dark fruit, overly ripe prunes and a metallic copper like flavor.
Feel was mild on the carbonation. Bit on the thin side.
Overall I didn't know what to expect going in to this brew. Its just not a good belgian dark ale. the metallic flavors are off-putting and its just not all that great. Maybe they'll iron out the recipe and it will improve, but as it is now, its not very good.
