a: This was a dark brown with ruby edges. It was served to me with a smallish, light tan head.

s: Coffee-like porter notes and a surprisingly strong hop aroma of pine and a little herbal lemon.

t: For a brief moment, this starts off as a prettty good porter. Then there is a shockingly strong, piny hop bite that all but overwhelms any porter characteristics. Strangely enough, it kind of works.

m: Average for a small porter, with long lived carbonation.

d: If I were to grade to style, the score would have to be much lower. This was strange but oddly satisfying.

from notes taken 7/16/12...

Opaque, dark brown body with a thin, light tan head. Smell reminds me of charred malt grains and cocoa. Light body, soft and smooth. Light chocolate malt and cocoa flavors with a subtle, behind-the-scenes bitterness.

An excellent porter. Subtle, balanced, with interesting hidden complexities that unfold the more you drink. Easy drinking to boot! Good stuff...

Tarrnished dark brown color with crimson highlights, clearish body overall with a thin ivory cap and thinly placed strings of lace stick. Aroma is faint of roasty blackened malts with slight charred chocolate notes. Flavor has a bit more action but still misses the mark. Oaty dark sweetness with hazelnut and vanilla mixing with notes of chocolate and coffee roast. Tiny hint of hop bite towards the finish. A bit thin on top but finish is decent enough with mostly a thinner body throughout and drys out a bit. Drinkable but lacking.
