From the 32 oz., crowler that was canned sometime in December 2015. Sampled on January 3, 2016.
5 out of 5 for the way it pours! Deep, opaque black color with no brown or red hues in sight. Big dark soft and silky tan head with excellent retention. How beautiful is that beer?
The aroma highlights an ashy sort of burnt dark malt character but the pine and citrus hop sensations are more forward and aggressive.
The body is medium or better. Also kind of smooth.
Interestingly, unlike the aroma, the taste starts with a dark roasted malt character but not a sweet one and the citrus and pine hop bitterness sneaks in at the end. But it lingers and finishes dry. This was an excellent rendition of the style.

Poured from a crowler. Light black body with a light brown head and lacing. Nutty and piney hops sit atop a throne of roasted malt, smoke, baker's chocolate, and earth. Taste is dominated by smoke, even more than hops, earth is the other main player, just breaks down. Feel is thin and smoky with decent hop texture on the finish.
