16 oz can - picked up from the brewery less than a week ago.
Pours a murky, opaque pale yellow-orange with a hint of brown to it. Not the most attractive color - kind of like old pineapple juice. Couldn't eke out a one finger head but it settled down to a silky thin blanket and laced well on the glass.
Aroma is pungent with grapefruit and maybe some peach but also there is a green hops smell that seems to come through with many of their beers. It reminds me of the smell of being inside a brewery. [Edit: this green hops smell fades with time on the beer - drinking last one of the pack 6 weeks later]
Taste is similar to the smell. There is a citrusy, seltzerish punch at the start that is very refreshing. This fades and gives way to a moderately strong bitterness that lingers to the finish. You can taste a qualitative difference to the malt behind it - not too sweet with a mild sourness to it. This is a nice touch and I think they did a splendid job with the flavor profile here.
Feel is creamy and smooth, likely the result of flaked oats. It is a not-sticky beer with a crisp feel and a clean finish.
I tried this one at the bar and was sufficiently impressed with it to bring a few home. I'm glad I did because I can appreciate it more now that I'm tasting how it changes as it mellows in the glass. Even if you are wary of "belgian" beers I would recommend trying it out because they have balanced it nicely and are not following the beaten path on this one.
