Enjoyed at The Beer Research Institute in Mesa, AZ. POUR: On tap poured into a 13oz tulip glass. APPEARANCE: Clear golden amber with a nice initial rocky white head which reduces after settling. No bubbles to speak of. Some glass lacing present. AROMA: Not much on the nose to speak of. Some yeast notes typical to the style but not much else. Upon a quick glass swirl some skunky aromas are kicked up. TASTE: Typical of the style. Spicy and peppery. Has elements of the Belgian yeast. A bit of a burn element to it as well. Can pick up some malty qualities but not much. Taste fades early. AFTERTASTE: Peppery and spicy throughout the brew. Mid-level burn but nothing too serious. NOTES: Kind of a ho-hum brew. No nose and typical style flavors. RESULT/ RATING: Okay / 2.05 out of 5.

Poured a rich cloudy golden body with a finger and a half of thick, bubbly, pure white head. Overall impression of appearance is of the perfect saison. Scents of citrus fruit, especially orange and tangerine at high levels and a moderate touch of stone fruit, this is supported by a moderate amount of spicy phenols, giving peppery notes, with a light sourness and light floral hop aromas with a soft Pilsner malt aroma. Overall impression of aroma is of a good saison, true to form that showcases a pleasing aroma. Flavor begins medium-dry with a good balance of spice and fruit, with citrus flavors of orange zest mingling with white pepper flavors dominating, a light tartness and notes of lemon zest and light floral hop flavors. This leads into a dry middle with notes of white pepper, orange zest, light tartness and a medium-light floral hop flavor. Finish is dry with white pepper phenols dominating, leading into light floral hop flavors, a hint of soft Pilsner malt and a light tartness, with a still moderate level of citrus zest. Aftertaste is dry with notes of bready Pilsner malt, floral, herbal hops and spicy, peppery phenols. Overall impression of flavor is of a good dry saison, very true to form and with a good variety of flavors on display. Mouthfeel is medium bodied and drying with effervescent carbonation. Overall impression of flavor is of a good, true to form saison. Overall this is a fantastic saison, very nicely done with the style's bones on display, but avoiding the trap of being to sweet. It displays the yeast and hops quite well which is very nice. A good saison.
