Pours black. Dark brown foam. Not much of an aroma. Creamy vanilla body. Sweet chocolate finish. Not too heavy. A solid double milk stout.

On tap.
A - Black pour with a thin ring of toffee colored lacing.
S - Big chocolate, vanilla, and fudge brownie on the nose.
T - Follows the nose with roasted fudge brownie, some vanilla, and roasted sweet chocolate char surfaces on the very back side to add some light bitterness to the finish.
M - Big medium to full body with a creamy, silky texture.
O - Solid and dig the fudge brownie / vanilla vibe.

Decanted from a 16 oz (473 ml) can into a conical pint glass; canned 02/18/20.
A: Pours black color with a one finger, milk chocolate brown head, retention only to a rim, and virtually no lacing.
S: Aromas hot chocolate, vanilla, black coffee, and cola or sarsaparilla evident.
T: Sweet. Flavors resemble the nose, with cocoa, cola, and star anise. Bitterness is relatively light, but sufficient to prevent sweetness from becoming too much. Not boozy at all.
M: No more than medium with no more than moderate carbonation. A bit thin and watery.
O: Enjoyable in the way a chocolate soda, but not necessarily an American Imperial Stout, should be.

A: The beer is essentially jet black in color. It poured with a quarter finger high tan head that died down, leaving a narrow collar of beige bubbles around the edge and some wisps of lacing on the surface.
S: Light aromas of vanilla are present in the nose along with notes of lactose.
T: The taste follows the smell and is mostly dominated by flavors of vanilla with notes of lactose and hints of dark chocolate. The lactose also contributes a bit of sweetness.
M: It feels medium- to full-bodied and somewhat smooth on the palate with a moderate amount of carbonation.
O: The aromas and flavors of vanilla and lactose make this stout almost seem like it could be a dessert stout. It's quite drinkable as no alcohol is perceptible in the taste.

a: jet, dark black. no light penetrates. rocky, marshmellow-like 2 finger tan head. looks like motor oil
s: roasted malt, vanilla, and sweet lactose upfront. cola syrup, sweet brown sugar, and a ton of molasses. burnt caramel, and charred oak with some campfire. finish is sweet lactose and vanilla
t: the lactose sweetness hits the tongue right away. vanilla, cola, cola syrup, molasses behind that. finally you get some roasted malt which provides just a hint of bitterness. some raw coffee beans, and a hint of alcohol. dark sweet fruit and a little bit of leather as well
m: mouthfeel is medium with lower carbonation. the mouthfeel is a bit light for an Imperial Stout. it's a touch sticky too
o: interesting stout here. my initial impression was that it was too sweet, however there is a nice depth of flavor in here with a nice complexity. it's still sweet, but that's not the only note. mouthfeel is a touch too thin though

My favorite dark beer offering from Common Roots, and a really nice stout by any metric. Not quite as powerful of a coffee flavor as their Coffee Cup brew, but to my palate contained a richer and more complex mix of stout flavors (chocolate, baking spices, nuts, etc.). The rich mouthfeel was nice - it was a pleasure to swirl each sip around your mouth and savor it before swallowing. I drank this for the first time while hanging out at a ski slope, and it was the perfect beer for the moment.

Had this from a can in a shaker glass.
A: pours black body with dark tan hues; tan head with minimal retention and lacing.
S: sweet roast notes with vanilla, hints of nutmeg and dark chocolate
T: sweet, dark roasted, chocolate notes with some sweet vanilla and alcohol in the aftertaste.
F: think, velvety body dances on the tongue and then embraces it like a hug
O: solid drinking beer; excellent feel; very well balanced taste. Excellent beer. Rare 5 for me.
