Sometimes decisions are easy, like which beer to share with a friend; at other times, they are more difficult. We value meticulous care, integrity, and passion. By choosing this beer, you are letting us know that these values resonate with you, too, for which we are truly grateful. Brewed with uncompromising standards at our brewery in Victoria, we are sure you will find this mildly hoppy, malt-forward ESB as pleasing as we do.

A solid ESB - good example of the style with just a hint of west coast.

650ml bottle - I always likes me a new ESB, so let's see what a brewery from the most British part of Canada can do.
This beer pours a clear, bright medium copper amber colour, with three fingers of puffy, rocky, and somewhat bubbly beige head, which leaves some decent sudsy flock of birds pattern lace around the glass as it slowly and surely sinks away.
It smells of bready and doughy caramel malt, a lesser biscuity toffee sweetness, some muddled domestic fruitiness, and subtle earthy, herbal, and floral noble hop bitters. The taste is grainy and crackery caramel malt, dry toffee candies, apple and pear skin, a hint of earthy and peppery yeast, and more understated leafy, weedy, and musty floral hoppiness.
The carbonation is adequate in its structurally supportive frothiness, the body a so-so middleweight, and mostly smooth, with nothing really causing any sort of ruckus here. It finishes off-dry, just, as the malt's crackery nature deems it so.
Overall - this one didn't exactly knock my metaphorical socks off, but it is indeed well-made, and earnest in its presentation. Pivotal though it may not be, I will still enjoy the easy-drinking character of another serving of this offering.
