Creamy dark beer made with rich chocolate malt that gives it bittersweet chocolate and coffee notes.

On tap at Tap and Mallet in Rochester, NY.
This one pours a very dark brown color, with a small white head, and lots of lacing.
This smells like roasted malt, light smokiness, and chocolate.
This is a pretty straightfoward porter, but done well. There's definitely a bit of a smokiness here, but I like it. There's a lot of roast, and a nice creamy chocolate character on the finish.
This is creamy, and feels bigger bodied than the ABV would suggest.
This is exactly the sort of Prison City would get right, so I'm not surprised.

a great porter, robustly flavored next to their stout, but a very approachable take on the style for its rather sturdy alcohol strength (which really cant be detected anywhere in it). deep deep brown color, darker than chocolate, with a soapy khaki head an inch tall with nice lacing on the edges of the glass. a bit of a coffee nose, but with a neat sweetness in the middle, molasses for a second, then black tea with honey, kind of an odd complexion in the middle of the porter, and i am assuming its all from the grain, but its really layered and quite nice. its there in the flavor as well as the nose, with a little bitterness to finish it off. smooth in feel too, and it blends one flavor into the next, evolving constantly through the long sip and finish experience. moderate body but easy drinking on a cold winter evening. a good compliment to their meat and cheese board, which was impressive in its own right. the beer at prison city was pretty much on point, and i cant wait to visit again. this would be good in a rum barrel with that funky raw sugar thing in the middle...
