big thanks to my brother for sending out a fresh crowler of this one. these guys are making waves back east, and i am excited to see them coming out for gabf this year, hope to drink some of their stuff at the festival! this is a tasty saison, stronger than most at nearly 8% abv, and quite a bit more belgian than it is anything else. the yeast is the leader here, and its really high tone estery, fermented warm, and sort of lacking the rustic, funky, or farmhouse elements of the style. as a belgian strong golden, this is outstanding, as a saison, it leaves a little to be desired. once i settle into the belgian mindframe, i like the notes of honey, blooming flowers, cotton candy, white grape, and even soft ginger, there is a nice mild but complex spice element here thats fascinating. carbonation pushes the beer along swiftly, it never gets boozy and even when its warm, it stays together really well. not as raw or wheaty on the grain side as i like in my saison, this is a little too cleaned up in that context, but it works with the yeast the way they have done it. not sure which strain this is, but its certainly allowed to go crazy in here. well made beer overall, refreshing oddly enough at this strength, and something a little different. stoked to have shared this with friends out here, prison city is getting a lot of well deserved positive attention, even this far west...
