Poured from a can into a pint glass
Appearance – The beer pours a clear golden amber color with a small one finger head of white foam. The head has a lighter level of retention, fading rather fast to leave a tiny bit of foamy lace on the sides of the glass.
Smell- While listed as a tropical brew, the tropical aromas are not the strongest. There are some smells of tangerine and papaya, but the largest aroma comes from some dank hop smells of pine and earth. Along with these aromas comes a little bit of harvest fruit and a touch of musty hay.
Taste – The taste begins with a crackery base taste that has a little bit of light tropical fruit sweetness of tangerine. Along with the tangerine is a little bit of pear and peach along with a moderate hit of some pine and herbal hop. As the taste advances the tangerine sweetness fades, but is replaced by a very light pineapple and some more harvest fruits. All the while more hop comes to the tongue, with a small quantity being a lighter grapefruit flavor and the bulk being more pine and herbal hop. With a massive hit of grass and hay that comes at the end of the taste, one is left with a rather dank, but lighter bodied taste to linger on the tongue.
Mouthfeel – The body of the brew is light and crisp with a slightly higher level of carbonation. For the dank tastes and low abv. the feel is pretty nice and makes for an easy sipping brew.
Overall – While listed as a “tropical session IPA” this did not have a big hit of the tropical. While said, it did have a very nice dank taste, and a very easy drinking feel and flavor. The dankness, while unexpected, was actually welcomed and appreciated by me and makes me more fond of this beer as it stands in a current world of tropical loving IPA beers driven by tropical fanatics (no offence to tropical IPA lovers, they are good, but I like the dank a bit more….). This is a rather nice brew and certainly one to try (whether you are a tropical IPA person or not) if you get the chance.
