i had no idea these guys were doing this sort of thing, i was caught by the sexy cork and cage packaging, and by the price point, incredibly fair. i love a black gose, not enough of these around, and this was outstanding, i think maybe easily the best beer i have ever had from them, just no clue they did anything this ambitious or high end, really solid stuff here, highly recommended! it pours frothy headed, moderately shiny black, and fizzy, and has a wonderful nose of dried lime, clean lactic tang, sharp white wine acidity, fresh coffee from the dark grain, and plenty of salt and brine and mineral character, way more complex, mature, nuanced, and well refined than i expected it to be, it immediately makes the price seem overly generous! they cold steep the malt, which i dont know a ton about, but it seems to give a full extraction of flavor and color without a ton of body, and a coffee note from the roast too maybe. i get some woody toasted coriander in this, fresh lemon, a new oak wrinkle, and a hint or raisin as well. its remarkably well refined, curiously evolved, and just as drinkable as anything. the sourness is middle of the road, but its super light and clean, and the fermentation profile isnt boring or samey at all. great carbonation, nice depth from the darker malt, but super fresh with the citrus notes and drying saltiness. just delicious, totally unexpected, i hope this is a sign of more to come from these guys. price is insanely fair too! dont sleep on this one!
