i was floored by this, and by their black gose. i had no idea these guys were making beers like this, wood aged, wild, funky, cork and caged, just no clue, and my experience at their taproom gave me no indication they were anything other than good old boys chugging along, this is really modern, sexy, and process intensive beer, the the execution is world class, maybe a new brewer, a philosophy shift recently, something, but this is advanced and delicious. pale hazy orange from the tap, short white head on it and a ton of fizz. it smells almost fuzzy like the outside of the fruit, soft and honest, ripe and natural and summery to me, also quite piquant, some white wine character, bacterial acidity, and some oak tannins it seems too, lemon and peach wafts up, light wheat. i dont get the same level of salt or coriander in this that i did in their black gose, maybe mellowed by the barrel, but i get a ton of the fruit and a lot of acidity with it, although this still has some roundness from the wood and the wheat. its juicy and fresh yet mature at the same time, and it gets increasingly tart as it warms. carbonated like a soda, funky beyond just the bacterial souring, but still actually pretty clean overall, dry to finish, impressive for how fruity this is earlier. really good, complex for an often simple style, and very well made. surprising and impressive, ill look for more from these guys next time in montana!
