i thought this might be part of their impressive gose series, i think the tap handle where i have it may have even said it was, but some research shows it being its own thing. really clever and well refined beer, i just had no idea these guys were producing all these cool sours! its a good look on them. this one is done with coconut and pineapple, i never expect these types of beers to be poured into pint glasses, so when it came to me like that i was surprised. its soft straw colored, hazy but still very light looking from the tap, a full inch of white head on top, looks great even in the shaker pint. the nose is only lightly sour, lemony and tart but not real acidic to me, its balanced by some earthy pale wheat malt and some tropical fruitiness, more coconut than pineapple to me, but i get both of them, along with a little white wine character, simple but appealing. the flavor is nice too, more pineapple now than i could smell, at least as bold as the coconut, with a canned pineapple sweetness to it, all in the second half of the taste profile, definite pina colada vibes to this, but its remarkably dry, which in part is what i kind of thought it might be a gose, its got some minerals to it and almost seems like there is a salted element drying out the finish. lemony but super clean on the lactic souring, not even really very much acidity here, and the pint glass actually seems kind of appropriate. i love all the carbonation, the way the coconut and pineapple arent overdone, and the base beer being as well refined as it is, all rightly restrained, professionally executed, and with great attention to detail. this recipe is a banger, the carbonation makes it sing, and i love the summery flavors. these guys have really come on strong over the least year or two, loving all these creative sour beers!
