This was poured into a nonic pint glass. The appearance was a dark brown close to black color with a one finger white to off white semi-foamy finger’s worth of messy head. Lacing is clingy. The smell starts off with a mouth puckering sting of hot spice. Its really in your face at first, but after a bit of warming, the chocolate starts to overtake the smell nicely. A bit of roastiness rolls in as well. The taste was pretty much the same and becomes fairly sticky in the aftertaste (light cocoa, roast and chile heat). There’s no finish. On the palate, this one sat about a medium on the body with not much sessionability about it. The chile heat makes it a sipper. Overall, for a stout, it carries the normal qualities and adds more than just a touch of heat. I’m guessing this is a fairly fresh batch, though no dates are anywhere on the bottle. Recommend if you want the heat.
