Reviewed from notes. The appearance was a dark copper close to a burnt amber, maybe brown color with a nice looking level foamy head that fell off at a good pace. The aroma had a good blend of roasty to sweet caramel/toffee malts, good dose of nuts, light cocoa powder, a little bit of cocoa butter and brought in some earthy hops to bitter nicely, somewhat light. The flavor blended the roast to the sweet pretty nice and brought in a slight sweet graininess to it. Aftertaste was what I wanted in a nice smooth brown ale. Finish was the same. The feel was about medium bodied with a decent sessionability about it. Carbonation felt good. ABV felt good. Overall, pretty good brown ale I’d have again.

lighter here on the malts and on the body than even the conventional american brown, even more of a dark mahogany color than brown in the glass. the head is over an inch high, just off white, and quite persistent, lots of carbonation for the style, a very lively glass of beer. a cool aroma of nutty roasted malts and chocolate malt too, its simple but well proportioned, and despite being somewhat lighter, it also has enough going on to grab my attention. the flavor has a little bit of astringency to it, surprising, but it seems like perhaps too warm of a mash or something, not way off, but definitely a flaw to me, as minor as it is. the flavor of the grain is nice though aside from that, dry cocoa and even a hint of dried fruit, red wine for a second, very pleasant. it could defintiely stand a little more body, especially for this time of year, but i like all the bubbles and how easy down it is. my first beer from these guys is pretty basic and simple, yet not flawlessly executed. i will have to give a try to the rest of their portfolio before i levy judgement though, hopefully get the chance sometime soon...
