Type: 16-oz. can
Reviewed as: American Double / Imperial IPA
Glass: Pure Project 16-oz. snifter glass
Price: $5.99
From: Windmill Farms in San Diego (Del Cerro), Calif.
Purchased: Sept. 21, 2022
Consumed: Oct. 7, 2022
Misc.: Canned on Sept. 8, 2022
Went to Windmill Farms specifically for Dino Park, a collab between Toppling Goliath and North Park. Unfortunately, it wasn’t there so instead I bought 12 singles and a 6-pack of Aurora Hoppyalis. Abnormal’s website called it “Harvest season is upon us! This Fresh Hop IPA features Chinook and Cascade from our friends at North Country Hops. Don’t hoard these cans as this beer-style is meant to be consumed as fresh as possible! Happy Harvesting!” Mentioned hops were Cascade, Chinook, Amarillo, Centennial, Citra, Columbus and Simcoe.
Poured a light amber clear color with 2-to-3 fingers of frothy off-white head. Could see fast-moving bubbles coming up from the bottom and middle of the glass. Excellent uneven foamy lacing. Excellent retention. (Sight - 4.50)
Really liked the nose. Got big dank resin, pine, skunky weed, wet grass, caramel, onion, garlic, black pepper, herbal and lime. Out of the seven mentioned hops, Simcoe, Cascade and Columbus stood out. Just as good out of the can. (Smell - 4.25)
Tasted dank resin, skunky weed, pine, caramel, herbal, wet grass, black pepper, aspirin, onion, garlic and lime. Out of the seven mentioned hops, Cascade, Columbus and Simcoe stood out. (Taste - 4.25)
Medium body. Oily texture. Average carbonation. Long, dank finish. (Feel - 4.75)
Just a terrific West Coast Double IPA. Damn. (Overall - 4.50)
