Montgomery Double India Pale Ale.
8% ABV. 72 IBU.
Montgomery Brewing, Montgomery, MN.

Mostly clear, deep amber hue, nearing crimson in color, fine helping of ivory froth on top.

In the nose: Sweet malty notes hit first, followed by fruit, and hints of hops. Slightly buttery?

In the mouth: Hop bitterness is in command at first sip, swallowed up surely by malt flavors. Well-balanced, this, while juicy and bitter. Alcohol strength is held at bay for a bit. Bright, fresh, and hoppy. Mmm, this is tasty stuff, and here it comes, the booze arrives. Held in check by full flavors, malt and hops held equally aloft.

This is the specialty batch that was requested so often it required us to add another tap and expand our flagship lineup.
West coast style, Midwest heart. Smooth and bold at the same time.

I got a 32oz can of this at the Hy-Vee grocery store in Faribault, MN whilst up there for son's hockey camp at Shattuck. It poured a clear copper with white head that left a nice lace. The scent had nice citrus peel hop. The taste was nicely balanced and very easy to drink for a double IPA. There was a good citrus bitterness. The mouthfeel was medium in body with good carbonation. Overall it was a solid beer.

L: copper amber with a slight haze permeated by streams of moderately fast rising bubbles under a 1" cream colored cap with good retention

S: moderate aromas of tropical fruit and biscuit lightly scented by onion and garlic and a faint hint of sulfur

T: mildly sweet with tropical fruit, traces of melon, a hint of pie crust and light onion and garlic balanced by a moderate, soft hop bitterness

F: medium plus body and medium soft carbonation

O: a double IPA for those who like the NE IPA flavors but prefer less juice and pulp

Had on-tap at the brewery. So popular they had to make it a flagship brew. An old school double IPA. Dry, well attenuated, and very bitter flies in the face of recent IPA trends. It does drink nice and probably would of enjoyed it more in the comfort of my own home.

750ML crowler that landed at a local place about seven hours ago – so I’m going to assume it’s fresh. Split with my wife, finally recovered from the creeping crud.

Like many crowlers, pushing in the tab results in a small beer thermonuclear explosion all over my tiny hand. Once I mop up, it’s dark orange/red with plenty of vive. The nose is citrus & orange.

Montgomery IIPA takes a few sips to get used to. It’s teeth-rattling dry. I can feel the skin on my forehead cracking. Bunches of citrus & pine, with a weird, appealingly syrupy quality to the mouthfeel, almost leaning into honey. Moderate to high bitterness that sticks around. The liquid is vanishing at an alarming rate.

It’s been a long, long time since I was pleasantly surprised by a brewery I’ve barely heard of! Vaguely reminiscent of the legendary Hopslam, this is an excellent IIPA & one of the best new hoppy entries from MN I’ve had in a while.

This double IPA pours a murky amber color.
The head is moderate thickness, but frothy. It also sticks around for a while.
The Nose is very strong with citrus notes.
The Taste has got a nice citrus feel. There is a nice amount of hops in this beer. Nice amount of bitterness.
Good beer. I will be getting it again.
