The General. Barrel-aged Imperial Stout. 9% ABV. 80 IBU.
Solid Stygian hue. Vast blackness, large and lasting cocoa/tan head resting comfortably above. Looking good.
Whiskey hits the nose first, vanilla and cocoa. Big time Kentucky Bourbon. Molasses, oak, char. Cherry, just a bit. Sweetness and richness together, again. Great depth. Smelling great.
In the mouth: Immensely complex. Caramel malt and toffee tastes roar up real strong on the palate. Coconut? Toasty. Tasty. Full-bodied, rich, decadent, delicious.
Solid. Sweet, then dry. Big, then thick. Much richness. Definite decadence. I said that, right?
All in all, this is exactly what I want out of a beer like this. Good one, Montgomery! Keep 'em coming!

750ML bottle purchased because hey, I started playing for Montgomery’s baseball team last year. We suck. But it’s fun at my advanced age to be called ‘the kid’ by 70 year old guys still stumbling around the outfield. They’re good guys. Split with my wife. The beer.
The pour is blacker than my oversized outfielder’s glove, but the glove smells better. The beer holds pieces of chocolate, roast. Tame.
The General should be demoted, immediately. What comes out of the glass is thin coffee gruel cooked up with three week old grounds.
The sentence above is about all I’m willing to write, because to pen more would require drinking more, which I am loath to do – because it’s dreadful. Montgomery makes good beers. This is not one of them. My wife agrees. Nearly the entire bomber heads down the drain.

750ml crowler. Poured out an opaque, jet-black color with a small, light brown head of foam. It smelled of toffee, roasted malt and toffee. Nice roasted coffee and malt flavor with chocolate and toffee.
