A traditional dark Bavarian-style Hefeweizen (wheat beer). In addition to the malty, sweet and spice flavor that characterizes a hefe, there is a light roast character and mild tartness, balanced with just enough German Noble hops.

22 ounce bottle poured into a shaker style pint glass.
A super lively pour, medium-dark brown and clear. A conservative pour yields at least 2 fingers of solid tan persistent foam. Nose is decent strength, weizen yeast dominates at the pour with some spicy hop aroma filling in after. Carbonation is very high but not harsh, it blankets your tongue with champagne quality bubbles, the beer almost explodes when it hits your mouth. After several swirls of the glass dark bread, wheat and light fruity and clove-like yeast flavors came out. Some creaminess also comes out as it calms down. Very interesting beer, very good well attenuated flavor under all the carbonation.

Dunkelweisens are very hard to find in America (at least I've had trouble finding them). This one was worth the wait. It is a little sweeter than the ones I drank in Germany but close enough that if I ever get over that way I will stop in for a pint.
