On tap at the brewery pub/tasting room the other day.
The beer pours the expected blackish brown color with pretty good head retention and lacing. On the nose I pick up considerable dark chocolate, coupled with some underlying vanilla, licorice and coffee. The flavor profile replicates the nose pretty closely, and I thought it impressive how well integrated the alcohol and licorice flavor is in this beer. The dark chocolate really dominates the flavor profile, but with the light licorice and vanilla giving the beer some needed backbone. Mouthfeel is fairly full and soft, and the beer has a long, clean finish. As noted above, the alcohol is very well integrated into the flavor profile, and so drinkability is really quite good for this RIS.
Impressive beer. Increasingly, I generally consume BA stouts or stouts with a lot of adjuncts (Prairie, Abraxas and the like), bu this is really a well crafted, "old school" impy stout. Quite well done.

We love reviews (150 characters or more)! Check out: How to Review a Beer. You don't need to get fancy. Drop some thoughts on the beer's attributes (look, smell, taste, feel) plus your overall impression. Something that backs up your rating and helps others. Thanks!
