Best by 9/10/23. Dammit, off by 1 day
And continuing on with the Japanese beer that Snaotheus sent me, we have a TIPA. One of the NEIPAs he sent that I drank was quite odd so I’m a bit nervous for this one, but I’m sure it’ll be decent at worst. Let’s crack it open and see what it’s all about
Pours a cloudy dark orange with 3 fingers of soapy off white head that slowly fades to a cap and leaves decent lacing
The nose doesn’t have too much going on, but what’s here is nice. I’m picking up on aromas of pithy grapefruit, bready malt, peppery hops, orange marmalade, pineapple juice, and light grass
It opens up a bit more in taste, but still not super expressive. On the front end of the sip I’m tasting orange marmalade, bready malt, piney hops, pithy grapefruit, honey, and light grass. The swallow brings notes of orange marmalade, bready malt, honey, peppery hops, pine sap, grass, and light pineapple
A medium full body pairs with gentle carbonation, resulting in a smooth beer. Finishes off dry with a light boozy heat
This one is a bit strange and there isn’t much to it, but dammit if it isn’t good for what it is

365ml can served in a little hotel glass. Bought it at a shop named Shimadaya in Utsunomiya, Japan. Can has a sticker on it that says 23.09.10, which I assume is a "best by" and I hope is a small number of months out from canning, not a small number of years.
Pours fairly clear honey amber with maybe a finger of head and tons of carbonation. Smell is grapefruit, marshmallow, old hay, booze, a little spiciness, and maybe some pine.
Taste is strong on the booze, heavily fruity, tons of grapefruit rind and pine resin. Bitter residue on the lips. Loses (or masks) most of the old hay.
Mouthfeel is moderately thick, rich, fulfillingly chewy. Overall...this is actually a pretty impressive west coast TIPA powerhouse. Glad I bought it.
