a really incredible flanders style red ale aged in local red wine barrels. one of the better american made examples of the style i have ever had, and honestly, one of the better ones from anywhere, its just great. the beer is smart in that it relies on the tannins of the wood and the wine as much or even more than it does on bacterial acidity for the pucker and pop of this one, which i think steers it away from the vinegar sourness a lot of the classic ones have, which is a pro for me all the way. is so much oak on the flavor, liquid lumber status, with the wine right there too, black cherry and raspberry, awesome with the tart red malts and the funk thats here too. an almost upgraded version of a classic style to me, as good or better than any i have had from the old world. full bodied, a little more dark malt than many, mature as can be, wood for miles, and a brilliant fruity snap to the feel while not losing the drink a whole one quality. not sure who todd is, or was, or whatever, but he should be honored that this beer was made in his honor. some of the best torn label beer to date, a must have really. phenomenal!

22oz bottle. Poured out a cloudy, dark amber color with golden highlights and a small, tan head of foam. It smelled of dark cherries and toffee. Nice sour cherry taste with a toffee finish.
