so this is a special version of their cherry and black currant, which is a nice beer in its own right that does have a natural piquant element from the fruit, but here they took even more fruit and did a lacto souring on it, creating something entirely new, and i think really well done. its pink and milky on the pour, lively though, and quite intensely colored, pretty and unique color to it. aroma is sour for sure, but not too acidic to be drinkable, they were smart to cut it off here and not let any more sourness develop, its lemony and quite clean, refreshing even, and it highlights the fruit in here. its almost generic fruity to me, hard to pick out the specific cherry and currant in the aroma or flavor, could be blackberry or marionberry or even a wine grape, but thats not to say it isnt delicious! the fruit is strong in here, quite a bit more intense than the original wheat, and i think its flattering, it adds complexity where there isnt a lot from the yeast or anything, and i can still taste the wheat, which is necessary to keep this beery instead of juicy. good tartness, not too much, and well refined, clean, and helping the fruit never seem too sweet. drinkable by the pint for me, which is rare in a sour like this. i think its a nice tweak to one of their staples, cool they are keeping it fresh in here with some innovation. this is a fun one for the summer, darn good for the first sour they have done (at least that i have had anyway), give it a try!
