Bottle purchased at Knucklehead Craft Brewing in Webster, NY. This is a scotch ale, fortified with apple jack, and then barrel aged in the apple jack barrels.
This one pours a thin looking medium brown, with no head or lacing.
It smells absolutely wonderful- apple brandy, some bourbon, oak, tons of dark fruit, mild booze, and some mild peat.
Though the aroma is pretty incredible, the taste falls flat. It's a little watery, which is surprising, given the intense ABV. I expected some syrupiness, but it's not at all. There's definitely a lot of apple jack (tastes like apple brandy to me) with some mild dark fruit, and oak, but the aroma made this seem like it was going to be way more evocative than it actually was. The booze is definitely there, but definitely not as strong as I thought it would be.
This is fairly light bodied, which is very surprising. There's a very low level of carbonation.
I wanted this to be better, but it's still cool to see a local brewery doing something so different.
