Pours a dark brown color with an off white head and a ton of lacing. Malty, toasted aroma with a hint of alcohol.
The taste is very well balanced, toasted, earthy and bittersweet. Caramel and toast without ever approaching cloying or really that sweet. Hops are earthy, with slight pine and herbal notes and all due bitterness. Alcohol is not a huge part of the flavor which is nice given the strength.
Full bodied, well carbonated ale. Smooth and very drinkable.
Overall, a very nice strong ale. Spot on really.

Strong, bold taste. Not for the Bud crowd but if you like strong ale you will love this. Pleasantly surprised by every beer offered

Tap at the brewery.
Pours a clear amber brown, eggshell film for a head.
Aroma is of bready malts and a dry bitter hop finish.
Flavor is of bready malts, dry floral hops, and a bit of caramel and oak. Some light coffee-like roast too.
Medium body with a tingle of carbonation on the roof of the mouth.
It's nice to see a brewery try an American strong ale that isn't a hop bomb. Already plenty of those. That said, what hops are there don't quite jive with the rest of the beer. The aroma is a little simple too. For a beer this big, you kind of want to see a few different things layered on top of each other, but this is pretty much malt-and-a-hop. Those gripes aside, this is a nice showing and avoids being cloying or otherwise undrinkable while achieving a high ABV. Drinks easy and goes down smooth. Could end up being a trademark beer for Spoonwood in a whiskey barrel version.

Pours a very clear amber. Strong lacing on the glass. This is a strong ale that is very malt forward. Not really sure what the aim is, but it's kid of unusual. Some hops, please? Something? Too much malts and a grassy thing (I assume that is the hops).
