473 mL can, the final brew of Nita Beer's 2024 Advent Calendar. The date on the label is Oct 30 2023 (I shall graciously assume that the year is a typo). Not sure if TBD is literally the beer's name, or if they just didn't bother naming it? Shrug. Served barely chilled.
Pours a muddied golden-orange colour, with sandy sediment visible within its body. Situated atop is more than an inch of bubbly, frothy white head that seeps away over the next several minutes, leaving behind a thin collar and a few filmy patches on the surface. Scant lace, but looks ok otherwise. Fruity aroma of bubblegum, pineapple, coconut and stone fruit, with hints of mango, mandarin orange and peach drink.
Not bad - flavourful for a light ale, but a little disjointed, especially on the back end. I'm getting big bubblegum flavours, with pineapple, orange and apricot also coming through clearly. Grainy, with just a hint of mango; diluted citrus and stone fruit round out the back end. Finishes fruity, followed by a dry-ish aftertaste. Light in body, with aggressive carbonation that prickles the palate relentlessly, frothing up in the mouth; kind of overcarbonated IMO. Its flaws are undeniable, but it's still a flavourful & reasonably drinkable light pale ale.
Final Grade: 3.43, a B-. TBD was not a great way to wrap up this calendar - in fact, it's one of the weakest of the 24 beers if you ask me, and a relatively mediocre pale ale in general. I appreciated the aroma, but the overcarbonation is a problem, and the flavour profile kind of gives up halfway through. Oh well: they can't all be winners, and overall I'm quite happy with the purchase - lots of solid beers, with 23 out of 24 being totally new to me, plus several new breweries ticked.
