Pours a beautiful clear gold colour with a dense white head atop. Grainy and corny on the smell. The taste is bitter, grainy, bready, grassy and hoppy all at once. Quite a flavourful Pilsner. One of the better ones in my opinion

Appearance: Pours with a finger of head that sticks around quite well, but sadly does not lace the glass. The body is a pale brass yellow that showcases ample carbonation.
Smell: I think maybe the barest whiffs of grass, straw and earth, but that's about it. Even after substantial warming, this offering just doesn't have a nose to speak of. Again, nothing offensive, but absent.
Taste: There is an odd earthiness that underpins the entire beer, which I wouldn't say I don't care for, as it seems to be spread out well enough. It makes for a bit of a different kind of drinking experience, as it starts with doughy barley malt and turns to a bit of grass and herbal notes that hold back the earthiness and try to clean things up.
Mouthfeel: Sadly, it doesn't do the job as a few moment later you are assaulted by that earth note in the aftertaste, as it lingers far more potently then when you first imbibed. It also leaves a slight dryness that I don't enjoy either. Carbonation is good though, and the transitioning is decent, albeit short.
Drinkability: I've had beers that have done this before. Leave that slight dryness in the aftertaste to encourage having more. It doesn't work on this one however, as that earth note is far too strong. It's light bodied and despite it's higher carbonation settles down well enough, but I would be hard pressed to want this, save for only the most sweltering of days and a lack of other options.
Final Thoughts: This is a rare disappointment from Clifford, but this gives me shades of Maclean's. Another Ontario brewer who makes great ales, that produced a lager one day and...well it was better that they hadn't. That said, I've had other Lagers from Clifford far better then this. I can only see the appeal here being if you like that specific variety of hops that is imparting that earth note to me. For me, this is pass. I've certainly had far, far worse, and it's certainly trying to be more then just a guzzling lager, but this note is not for me.
