Got a can of this and some other good stuff from Nick. Back of the can read “For this rendition of Genius Wizard, the Ratio Brew Team selected their favorite rye and bourbon whiskey barrels from the Laws Whiskey House collection and let the barrels do the talking. Our curated choices have left this small batch addition of Genius Wizard with notes of whiskey, caramel and a slightly peppery mouthfeel from the oak of the barrel. From the hands of our brewers to yours, Cheers!”
Poured a dark, almost pitch-black color with two fingers of khaki tan fizzy head, which dissipated quickly. Couldn’t see any bubbles coming up along the sides of the glass. Outstanding spotty lacing. Good retention. (Sight - 3.75)
Smelled boozy whiskey, leathery oak, caramel, toffee, hazelnut, chocolate syrup, hints of butterscotch, crayon and black peppery spice. (Smell - 4.25)
Tasted almost as good as the nose. Pretty smooth for 12 pct. ABV. In order got caramel, toffee, butterscotch, hazelnut, smooth whiskey, leathery oak, chocolate syrup, crayon and black peppery spice. (Taste - 4.00)
Medium body. Sticky texture. Average carbonation. Long, smooth finish. (Feel - 4.50)
Just a really good barrel-aged stout. Glad Nick got me a can. (Overall - 4.25)
