A true labor of love, Coconut Milk Double IPA is a play on words that has gone too far and cannot be stopped. Made with a legion of hand toasted coconut and a small mountain of milk sugar, Coconut Milk Double IPA marries our trademark tropical hop forward style of brewing with so much coconut that you will want to drop a little umbrella in your glass. First approach is loaded with fresh coconut, slowly dissipating, only to meld in perfect harmony with the papaya, pineapple, tangerine, and guava notes from the hops. Milk Sugar (lactose) provides a creamy mouthfeel that carries the coconut along its voyage towards its navigational beacon. Creamy, tropical, fruity, and toasty, we can't help but think Coconut Milk Double IPA tastes like Jimmy Buffet lyrics and smells like a Kenny Chesney video.

Had this at the brewery, Berkeley IIRC.
Pours a light amber color, plenty of cloudiness to it, 1/3" white head. Coconut really saves the aroma, otherwise, there is nothing really "ipa" about it. A bunch of sugar and coconut. But I really like the smell of coconut, brings up images of bikinis and partying. The claims of massive dry hopping are lost on my nose.
Yeah this is a coconut bomb for sure, but there is a degree of bittering hops to it that are wonderfully places to counterbalance all that lactose bullshit I hate in ipas. This is like, legit the best lactose ipa I have ever had. I really hate them like kvass. Instead, this managed to have just enough bittering to keep everything I dislike at bay. Eventually as it warms more, some of those Citra hop citrus notes come into play, but they are in a mild supporting role here. This beer is all about coconut, some hops to a lesser degree, and a bunch of lactose that is largely restrained by the better things in the beer.

Sweet, vanilla-orange (creamsicle!) citrus, coconut nose on this one! Taste follows exactly with a sweet, orange and coconut vanilla finish. This definitely has some Pina Colada vibes with a twist of orange going on. It's a bit on the sweeter side, but as a Pina Colada fanboy, that is alright with me! Ha!
As it warms a bit, the initial subdued orange-citrus bitterness starts to show up a bit more and linger on the back of the throat. This has nice depth and feel, but I was expecting a hazier appearance and softer mouthfeel with it being 100% Citra with Milk Sugar added. Still very good! Just not as mind blowing as I was hoping for.

Crowler poured into a snifter
A: Pours hazy golden orange amber with a frothy off white head that settles to a thin layer and leaves some nice lacing.
S: Big time coconut runs the show, juicy citrus, tropical fruit, a little biscuity malt, and caramel sweetness.
T: Holy coconut batman! It jumps right out, nicely complimented with citrus, orange and tangerine, tropical fruit, mango, passion fruit, biscuity malt, and caramel sweetness.
M: On the fuller side of medium body, moderate carbonation, creamy smooth.
O: I've had a couple coconut IPAs before, but never anything that works so well. Really impressive brew.

This was very well executed, just too sweet for my tastes. The coconut and lactose sweetness is too much when cold, but as the beer warms the hops come out in force, and the beer is really interesting and enjoyable

These guys did an excellent job brewing this beer....nose is obviously coconut heavy, more like sun tan lotion. The taste manages to balance tropical fruit with the coconut and slight hop bitterness.its very, very similar to Smooth beats by Finback.....very well brewed coconut ipa.

Reviewed from a can from last weekends release. Pours a medium orange body that is bright and clear, a light frothy head that leaves massive lacing. Aroma is a blast of tropical bliss...smells like a pina colada! Huge blast of coconut and some underlying lemony bitterness. Very sweet and creamy taste, nice light bite on the back but predominantly ripe coconut meat and coconut milk. Very interesting beer, hard to say it is a double IPA though!
