i found (after drinking through most of the beers here), that the hoppy stuff is what these guys do best. this one is really in the wheelhouse, although i have to admit the wheat is not where i expected it to be in this, was hardly sure it was a pale wheat when i was drinking it, would have just called it an american pale. clear and honey colored, and without a ton of body, so i was surprised to even learn there was much wheat in here. the hops are what its all about though, and not that the grain bill is inconsequential or anything (its a perfect base for these hops), but the hops are so bright and fresh in here. pine for sure, but not the bitter and sticky sappy feeling kind, clean and light, like the pale green new growth in the spring, softer and almost spicy for a second, and more sweet than sharp all the way through. this is one of the easier drinking hoppy beers, both in alcohol and body its very light, but so fresh and interesting too, i wonder what the hops are. mild for the west coast style, but definitely more of a pale to ipa than anything else. i could have had ten of these if they didnt have so many other cool beers working that demanded my drinking. ill be back for more of this one!

Palate Contaminants: chicken dinner
A portmanteau word for the container. And it's a lot for one container.
The appearance is a nice and clear gold. Fine white foam on top that goes away quickly.
The smell is a sharp pine resin, really pleasant. Candied fruit, especially orange, too. A little malty. Not massively complex, but pretty good.
Taste up front is earthy and moderately bitter. There's a nice balance with the malt. Even though it's not barrel aged, there's some white wood, mostly ash (think baseball bats) flavor. There's a little fruit that shades toward peach, but it's not exactly that. Maybe toasted rye, also. Good, but not up to the smell.
Feel is moderate thickness, and there's foamy carbonation with a swish around the mouth. Aftertaste is mostly bitter, but it's not overwhelming.

Poured from a growler into a wine glass.
Golden and copper body with exceptional clarity and light carbonation. Sudsy head and light lacing that settles in a swirl over the body. 5
Delectable aroma of sweet sticky melon. Light mango. Fresh strawberries and resin. 4.5
Taste is slightly biscuity, resin-flavored and fruity. More berry and less melon, but it still has a nice honeydew flavor and some mango. Kind of has some fruit cocktail going on. 4.25
Light bodied and lightly-malted with some resinous feel, sweetness and a creamy middle. Finishes dry with a cracker and biscuit kind of feel. 4.25
Nice to get this type of fruity, light-drinking IPA on the West Coast. Well-done.
