Pulp Free is not your typical Fieldwork IPA; originating from our first foray into the murk craze it never quite felt right in our dartboard of a beer lineup, and was thusly reinvented with added clarity and increased bitterness, resulting in the Westcoast version of its namesake PULP IPA. While PULP exemplifies what we want in a Northeast IPA, we figured Pulp Free could do just the same for us in the world of Westcoast. Measured bitterness, excessive dryness, and the same over-the-top dry-hopping of Citra hops deliver the expected Fieldwork flavor profile and explosive aroma in a San Diego styled package. The abundance of Citra hops create an aggressive aroma that smells like a drive through a citrus orchard in peak of season, with notes of fresh orange wedges, yellow grapefruit, hard lemon candies, and juicy sweet mango trekking from the first sniff to the last sip.

Crystal clear pour, small head. Not a ton of aroma. Grapefruit bomb, some tropical flavors, and a mild dankness. Nice rich, robust in the tongue. Solid.

On tap at Belmont Station today. Have had this beer previously, but the current batch is particularly outstanding (and needs to be recognized IMHO).
The beer pours a peachy golden amber color with very good head retention and lacing. On the nose... Mama mia! This smells great. I'm picking up considerable orange citrus, tropical fruit, and underlying dank earth. This smells like a serious IPA. The flavor profile replicates the nose, with a long, lightly bitter, dry finish. The orange citrus really comes on strong in this beer, but isn't excessive. This IPA is very light on its feet, with the alcohol well integrated into the flavor profile. Mouthfeel is light to medium bodied, with a very clean, crisp and moderately bitter finish. Drinkability is off the charts. This is the sort of IPA you feel as if you could drink glass after glass.
Impressive. I've generally found that fieldwork has a knack for making great IPAs, but this is really a standout (even for them). Over the years I've drunk hundreds of different IPAs, and this beer would make my top 10. This is an unusually well made IPA (IMHO). Kudos to Fieldwork brewing.

On tap at Fieldwork Brewing
A: Pours golden yellow with a frothy off white head that settles to a thin layer and leaves a little light lacing.
S: Grassy and resinous, a bit green like it just came out of the tank, zesty citrus backed with a little tropical and stone fruit, faint floral hints, biscuity malt, a a touch of sweetness.
T: Bright citrus, lemon, grapefruit, lime, and orange, resinous pine, underlying tropical and stone fruit, apricot, peach, underripe mango, passion fruit, and hints of lychee and melon, a bit grassy, biscuity malt, and a fairly dry finish.
M: Medium body, moderate carbonation.
O: Really solid West Coast take on their classic.
2024 Revisit: The last time I tried this one I think I was starting to come down with a cold so I wanted to make sure I got to try this one at full strength. This time it feels fresh out of the tank. Much greener resinous than I remember, in addition to all the citrusy goodness. Really glad I got to circle back to it.

This was the 4th beer in a 6 beer flight consumed at Fieldwork Berkeley.
Pours a slightly brassy color with 1/3" white head. Somehow, the Citra hop aroma didn't pull through here. Maybe my nose was dusted after all that Mosaic goodness that dominated the front half of the flight. Just thought it was unusual that this one rated so low in the smells.
Taste went better, gave a clean impression of the Citra hop. Good dry ass body, relatively high bitterness. It brings in some grapefruit, orange and tangerine aspects from the hopping. Went more citrus than tropical. Carbonation is appropriately elevated. While its not the best beer from Fieldwork, it is pretty amazing how this is still an excellent beer from almost any other brewer. I'm all about the levels of dryness and crispness out of this beer. Really wish they would can this up in greater quantity.

Sweet dankness on aromatics. This one is very drinkable, smooth, and crushable...but, nothing really stood out for me on the taste and swallow. The taste followed the nose... swallow

Clear, lightly sparkling gold with a large white foam settling to a thin blanket and large thick bubbly collar.
The nose is a deft mix of woody, spicy pine and citric orange and grapefruit with hints of Sweet Tarts and dank weed.
Taste is unabashedly, bitterly West Coast, bringing the pine and tongue thrashing bitterness, but is also tasty and almost juicy with lots of citrus and a touch of allium-esque dankness.
Feel is actually round at first despite the bitterness, with a nice crisp middle and a semi-dry finish.
