Another juice-bomb from our series of hazy Northeastern IPAs, Galaxy Juice is a Wamea sized wave of pineapple. Aroma rolls slowly, surging forwards with its trademark notes of fresh pineapple, as you pull your glass to your mouth and take a gulp, Galaxy Juice crashes down with copious amounts of body and bright tropical hop flavors. Its hazy appearance, sticky mouthfeel, and fresh from the fields of Hawaii flavors make it an IPA that is in the styling of our favorite Northeast breweries with a profile that James Dole would give his stamp of approval on.

Can poured into a Mountain Rambler Brewery pint glass
A: Pours hazy peachy golden amber with a frothy creamy white head that settles to a frim layer and leaves plenty of nice lacing.
S: Zesty citrus, bright tropical and stone fruit, a bit grassy, faint earthy tones, biscuity malt, and a little caramel sweetness.
T: Citrus, orange, grapefruit, and lime, tropical and stone fruit, pineapple, passion fruit, peach, mango, and apricot, earthy undertones, biscuity malt, and a little caramel sweetness.
M: Medium body, moderate carbonation, soft yet crisp.
O: I'll be honest, I was expecting more of a juice bomb with a bit more sweetness and a bit less bitterness, but what I got was a proper NEIPA so it's impossible to complain. Super enjoyable. This one and its big brother have managed to elude me for a while, always just missed it being available by a week or so either before or after I've visited, so I made a point to snag some this time when I was passing within striking distance of a tap room. Hopefully I can get lucky and get my hands on some Galaxy Sauce next.

Sweet tropical hoppy, hint of stonefruit, and grassy/earthy dank nose on this one! Taste follows with a tropical fruity, grassy/earthy hoppy bitter finish...some bitter hop-burn shows up as it warms. Whoa, this drinks and feels like a medium-bodied DiPA...is this DDH'd?! Good stuff!

Opaque and pulpy pale lemon-yellow brew, with minor amounts of visible particulate. Good head production, with a firm, off-white head, with fantastic retention.
Aroma is a fabulous blend of juicy and herbal tones: oregano, basil, and mint add sharp highlights to pureed mango and pineapple, peach and berries, lemon and orange.
Lusciously juicy on the palate: mango, pineapple, orange, passion fruit, blueberries, strawberries. Mild pungent dankness lingers throughout the sip, almost like earthy, slightly buttery sweat. Sweet, and with little of the bright herbal notes present on the nose. Mild-to-moderate bitterness, very appropriate for the style.
Very lively mouthfeel, but soft, pillowy, and unbelievably full for a single IPA clocking in at 6.6%.

Canned 3/21/19, consumed 3/23/19
L: Hazy & cloudy yellow orange with a thick inch+ head, good retention, and tons of solid bands of lacing.
S: Pineapple fruit juice with some peel/rind notes.
T: Exactly like the aroma, outstanding juicy pineapple flavor.
F: Has that great NEIPA smooth & creamy feel with nice fuller body, lower carbonation and bitterness, little zesty tingle on the tongue without a harsh bite, very nice.
O: Looks, smells, and taste like pineapples, one of the better West Coast single NEIPAs, terrific feature of Galaxy hops.

Whenever I think of the most "pineapple" like flavors in beer without adding actual pineapple, this beer comes to mind. Its better than every beer with actual pineapple I've ever had. God bless the Galaxy hop.
Pours a hazy yellow, 1/3" white head. Some cans within the same 6 pack, much less different batches, have a wide degree of inconsistency appearance wise, but nothing detrimental, just sometimes its bright yellow super hazy, sometimes its brass and deals with more clarity. Aroma is massively pineapple. Like, more than any other beer I've come across. More than Sculpin Pineapple even. Its no joke, the commercial tug job is totally on point here.
Taste is yummy, still comes off as sweet perception wise because of the Galaxy/pineapple notes. But its delicious and super bangable. There is a mild onion/garlic like imprint on the mouth feel, as if they cut this with some Summit hops (remember those?). Its totally complimentary somehow. Has enough of a bitter kick to keep it from being soupy flaked wheat nonsense. I really dig it, and even though its expensive ($4-5 per can) its totally a beer I would continue to repeatedly purchase when available.

This beer is probably the most New England of the NEIPAs I've tried from Fieldwork Brewing. Actually, this may be one of the most New England NEIPAs I've tried bar none. If "New England" were an Instagram filter the slider would probably go beyond the maximum setting and then cause your cell phone screen to crash in to a hazy screen of death.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Under conventional definitions of "a New England IPA," a beer qualifies as a New England IPA if it is (1) a beer that is brewed in the style of an American IPA; (2) while expressing abnormally high amounts of hop-derived flavors and aroma; (3) despite the high amount of humulone content, does not imbue its drinker with an overly bitter impression, and; (4) sports a juicy, slick, sometimes creamy mouthfeel from the flaked oats addition to the malt bill.
Here Galaxy Juice is brewed in the style of an American IPA because it is a decidedly hoppy and bitter, moderately strong American Pale Ale. BJCP 2015 Style Guidelines, 21A IPA / American IPA; See, BJCP 2015 Style Guidelines, 10A American Pale Ale.
Here Galaxy Juice expresses abnormally high amounts of hop-derived flavors and aroma because each sniff and sip exudes distinct notions of fresh-cut pineapple, papaya, guava, pink grapefruit rinds, and some raw onion-like vegetal notes.
Here Galaxy Juice does not imbue its drinker with an overly bitter impression despite the high humulone content because each sip leaves a crisp and dry sensation, repriming the tongue for yet another sip, as opposed to the astringent, harrowing aftertaste some extremely over-hopped examples of West Coast IPAs tend to exhibit.
Here Galaxy Juice sports a juicy, slick, sometimes creamy mouthfeel from the flaked oats addition to the malt bill because res ipsa loquitor.
Therefore Galaxy Juice qualifies as a New England IPA. And a well-executed example, at that.

I didn't realize that this cloudy, fruit forward style was considered "New England" until now. I like it though. I've had some beer like this before from various places of origin, and this one is from northern California as it so happens.
It's not bitter like an English ale, and it isn't the same kind of aromatic as a west coast IPA, but it's pungent and hoppy and really popular here at Toronado in SF.
