Well ain't this an interesting development. The rarely seen in the wild coffee ipa. Most of them are misses, but there has been one hit out there (Stone Dayman IPA) that is world class. Then you have the Mikkeller ones that fail. And then when Stone tried to mass produce a similar beer to dayman that fell flat. And some others I'm sure I'm not remembering at this time. So anyways, this beer pours a light amber color more akin to ipa than milk stout, and clarity isn't its strong suit. 1/4" off white head, slightly smaller than your average fieldwork pour.
I dug the nose, a mixture of citrus (orange-Citra) and coffee beans. While I often choose between either orange juice or coffee for breakfast, with the combination just being too much acidity, this manages to pack both in without acidity or bitterness issues. I've only had it on draft, but would gladly pick up a can or six to give it another try, its intriguing and so complex that it begs for multiple sessions to really get your arms and taste buds around it. I feel at this point confident enough to say its a good beer, and the 2nd best coffee ipa I've ever had. Needs moar research.

This was as if a milk stout and an IPA had a baby. Smells like it ought to be dank. The flash of hops was there in the initial sip, but immediately disappeared to a sweet milk stout flavor with ever so subtle a hops background. This brew defied expectation. Weirdly awesome, way awesome.
