When we first brewed Wax years ago it was... ....well, it was an enigma of a beer with a hop profile unlike anything we had experienced before, which is exactly why the Aussies named this hop "Enigma." After years of refining the cultivation of this hop, and more time for it to get its uniqueness across people's palates, we're reveling in the love it is getting and the foregone polarization it once caused. Every year these hops keep getting better and this year was no different, you’ll see a lot of the same notes in Wax past but with more intense notes of red berry compote, sherbet, papaya, overripe sweet oranges, a medley of tropical fruits, and a respectable dose of the giggle bush. While we love the overall profile of this hop, its best trait still might be its sheer pungency; making Wax one of those beers you can smell from across the bar while your server is pouring it. Really, what's not to love about that?

Canned 7/5/23.
L: Pours a hazy gold with a big fluffy head that sticks. Visible bubbles moving upwards. Thick and beautiful lacing.
S: Muted aromas of citrus and melon.
T: Melon up front, then citrus, then a weedy dankness. Finishes dry and slightly bitter.
F: Medium mouthfeel. Good carbonation.
O: Very well done. The melon/citrus/dank medley really works. But for the weak aroma, this would be world class.

Can poured into a Mountain Rambler Brewery pint glass
A: Pours hazy golden amber with a frothy off white head that settles to a light layer and leaves some spotty lacing.
S: Quick hit of slightly dank herbal notes and resinous pine, followed by some citrus and a wild mix of fruits, tropical and stone fruit, red berries, and white grape, biscuity malt, and caramel sweetness.
T: Citrus juice, grapefruit, lemon, and plenty of tangerine, slightly dank herbal notes, a little resinous pine, slowly giving way to a very interesting underlying fruity side, mango, pineapple, nectarine, red berries, white grape, and apricot, biscuity malt, and caramel sweetness.
M: Medium body, moderate carbonation, soft on the palate.
O: To say this one is unique would be an understatement. Super impressive depth of flavor for a single hop beer, and it all works together nicely.

I had this on tap at the source. Pours murky looking, NE-style. Low aroma, with flavors reminding me of cantaloupe melon and some candied citrus notes. Somewhat muddled, with a low bitterness.

Draught pour at Sacramento tapoom into a tulip. Nose and taste are very earthy and woody, some citrus on the taste that's buried in the nose. Mouthfeel is very nice, creamy and slick on the tongue.
Not a profile I overly enjoy, but a well crafted NE-style brew.
