It's borderline unnerving how fast Strata hops broke through from obscure experimental hop to absolute stalwart of all variations of IPA. This hop can do it all, and in Space Maze it plays the perfect juice-maker. Dropping juicy hits like it's name is Biggie, Strata lays down massive notes of strawberry astronaut ice cream, passionfruit curd, fresh smashed raspberries, riesling grapes, sugared grapefruit wedges, mango puree, lime zest, papaya, and the stickiest of the ickiest weed. With minimal bitterness and a sticky sweet mouthfeel, Space Maze is equal parts razzmatazz smoothie and nouveau IPA.

Pours a full on haze life into yet again, a Pyramid brewery pint glass, replete with a full 1" of headspace. The color of the beer is somewhere in that yellow/beige/dull orange scheme. For a hazy ipa it suffices appearance wise, even if the color is that of a dullard dimension.

The aroma, I don't think it went as hard as the commercial tug job does for the Strata hop. I was pulling some woody notes alongside the faded strawberry cough strain. Sticks and stems in this one dawg.

Taste went in a kinda unexpected direction, had a sweeter lemongrass edge I didn't see coming after the slightly woody nose. Had a higher than expected bitterness too despite the obviously significantly hazy body. This one kept zigging when I thought it was zagging. It also had a heavier malt presence, barley, oats, wheat, all of it. Which is strange that it didn't cut the bitterness moreso in spite of that. Cream, get on top, but this one was difficult to wrap my hands and mind around. Was only a single can purchase, so who knows.

Gotta say this is one of the leastest of Fieldwork hazys. It's too sweet and just kinda blah. Lacks the awesomeness of their Wax and Galaxy Juice. Hazy department seems sort of hit and miss at Fieldwork these days.

Can poured into a Mountain Rambler Brewery pint glass

A: Pours hazy golden orange amber with a frothy pale khaki head that settles to a firm layer and laces quite nicely.

S: Tropical and stone fruit, citrus, a bit of resinous spice, slightly dank grassy herbal notes, biscuity malt, and caramel sweetness.

T: Mix of citrus, tropical and stone fruit, pineapple, grapefruit, apricot, peach, mango, passion fruit, strawberry, and lime, a bit of chili spice, underlying grassy herbal notes with a hint of dankness, biscuity malt, and caramel sweetness.

M: Medium body, moderately prickly carbonation and a touch of hop burn, yet still somewhat soft on the palate.

O: I'm so used to seeing Strata being used in dank West Coast style IPAs. It's really cool to see it given the hazy treatment and show off it's fruity side. That trademark Fieldwork intensity really makes it pop.

Pale orange haze. Nose is candy strawberry and ripe melon. Taste is cantaloupe, orange slices, red berries, and peach. Prickly, thin mouthfeel. Moderate bitterness.
